Patricia Collins from St. John’s
This is Patricia with Ernest, and can you see Bertram lying on the table? (all photos: Patricia Collins)
Two of Patricia`s 16 cats are Ernest and Bertram. They are both 7 ½ years old.
They were rescued on September 2, 2005, after being dumped in an apartment building, they were only 8 weeks old.
They are wonderful short hair black cats, twin boys.
Patricia rescued them from the apartment building and they have lived with her ever since.
“The Six Golden Questions”:
– What does your pet like?
My boys like everything and everyone. They both especially like getting in the backyard in summer to roll in the grass. They don’t go outdoors without strict supervision even though my backyard is catproofed and they can’t get anywhere. I’m a little anal when it comes to my cats.
– What does your pet not like?
There really isn’t anything that they don’t like, they are both very social and you can do whatever you like to them, dress them up, put bows on them. Whatever, it’s all fun for them.
– Favourite toy?
I think their favourite toy is me. Bertram is a lap cat, any lap will do. The minute I sit he is there. If I stand up then Ernest is howling to be picked up and walked hanging over my shoulder while being patted on the back like a baby. They are probably a little ruined.
– Favourite food?
Bertram’s favourite food is FOOD. He will eat anything and will always have it all over his face cause his tongue doesn’t come all the way out, some defect or other. So he actually eats with his whole face in something. As for Ernest he eats just about anything wet and they love all their dry. Of course Temptations treats are always good.
– What have you learned since you have had your pet?
Ernest and Bertram were my first male cats and although all my girls are great and loving, I’ve never experienced the total love and adoration that I get from Ernest and Bertram. They both want to be near me all the time either in my lap or in my arms. I have several other boys but no one in the house compares to those two. How anyone dumped them is beyond me. But that being said I’m glad they did cause now they are with me.
– Do you have any advice for other pet owners?
I don’t know if I have advice for anyone, just do your best for your pet. Spay and neuter your pets, don’t contributed to the overpopulation. I wish all pets were treated like mine but I know that isn’t possible knowing the amount of animals I have rescued over the years from horrific situations. If you don’t or can’t care for your animal then there are rescue groups out there to help, just don’t abandon helpless creatures who depend on us for their lives.
Everyone who know me knows that everything that crosses my yard or property gets caught at some point and is spayed and neutered. I feed a lot of cats in my neighbourhood, some have homes, some don’t.
My personal motto is “You don’t break a promise to a kitten”.
