A trail where you could take your dog

Barr`d Island Trail
in Englee

Easy to moderate hike. Duration less than 1 hour.

Turn right at the “STOP” sign at the center of town. After crossing a bridge, turn left. Follow the shoreline road until you come to a sandbar connecting the mainland to the base of Barr’d Island.

The Trail begins with 164 steps leading up the side of a cliff, several landings along the way with picnic tables and rest areas. Excellent for viewing icebergs, the bay, the town (binoculars provided), look outs along the trail offers a fantastic view of the area.

The location of Newfoundland’s worst sealing disaster as depicted in the book Death on the Ice. Walk the rugged shoreline of Barr’d Island will also yield unique sea rock formations and sea caves.
